Hilarious Celebrity Phobias
Fear of revolving doors, butterflies and antique furniture may seem pretty ridiculous, but perhaps not as ridiculous as the celebrities who actually possess them. Here are some of the unusual fears of the rich and famous…
Nicole Kidman: Butterflies
Known as lepidopterophobia, Nicole Kidman states that she is not afraid of snakes or spiders but for one reason or another, beautiful, colorful, fluttering butterflies instill the same terror in the actress as being chased through a dark alley by Freddie Kruger. Kidman said she once tried to overcome her fear by going through a butterfly exhibit at the American Museum of Natural History, but didn’t make it through. As a little girl, she couldn’t even go in her yard if there was a butterfly sitting on the gate.
Matthew McConaughey: Revolving Doors
The archetype of hunky manliness whose sculpted, half-naked body adorns the back pages of just about every gossip magazine, isn’t quite the robust and fearless hero you want to have by your side if ever (heaven forbid) you come face-to-face with a ravenous, human-eating revolving door. McConaughey claims he feels anxious even getting close to them. He also has an irrational fear of entering tunnels.
Billy Bob Thornton: Antiques
The old, musty smell of ancient furniture may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but for ol’ Billy Bob, antique furniture is a genuine fear. Thornton says he hates antiques, particularly “big, old, gold-carved chairs with the velvet cushions” found predominantly in French antique furniture. The Bad Santa star has also claimed that he refuses to stay in a room with furniture built before 1950.
Pamela Anderson: Mirrors
Who would have thought that Pammy-Balloon-Tits suffered from “eisoptrophobia”- a fear of mirrors? Sufferers of this phobia experience undue anxiety even though they realize their fear is irrational. Pamela says she is so afraid of looking at herself, she can’t watch herself on television. If anything comes on, she shuts it off or leaves the room.
Alfred Hitchcock: Eggs
The official term for a fear of eggs is ovaphobia and funny enough the man who struck terror into our hearts with killer birds, heights and psychos has been quoted saying: “I’m frightened of eggs, worse than frightened, they revolt me. That white round thing without any holes … have you ever seen anything more revolting than an egg yolk breaking and spilling its yellow liquid? Blood is jolly, red. But egg yolk is yellow, revolting. I’ve never tasted it.”
Lyle Lovett: Cows
Taurophobia is a fear of cows and bulls and a person in this phobic condition will feel helpless in the animals presence and try to run away. Incidentally, “Lovettophobia” is a deep-seated and uncontrollable fear of country singer Lyle Lovett. A person in this phobic condition, will feel helpless in the presence of Lovett and try to run away.
Johnny Depp, Daniel Radcliffe and Sean “Diddy” Combs: Clowns
Coulrophobia is the term given to the fear of clowns, and anyone who has read or watched Stephen King’s IT, has certainly encountered elements of this fear at some point. True coulrophobics find the very presence of a clown a terrifying prospect.
Orlando Bloom: Pigs
Swinophobia refers to the fear of pigs. Orlando Bloom is so terrified of pigs that when one pig got loose on the set of Kingdom of Heaven, Bloom actually ran off the set screaming.
Christina Ricci: Indoor plants
Botanophobia describes an individual’s irrational fear of plants. Christina Ricci reportedly hates indoor plants because they are dirty and the very thought of having to touch them makes her sick to her stomach. Ricci is also scared of swimming pools and small pets like gerbils.
David Beckham: Birds
Fear of birds, known as ornithophobia, is the phobia of footballer and husband to Spice Girl Victoria Beckham. Mr. Beckham also suffers from obsessive compulsive disorder and has his clothes meticulously placed in a colour-coordinated wardrobe.
Walt Disney: Mice
Walt Disney was inspired to create his beloved character Mickey Mouse after seeing mice scattering around in his basement. Ironically, he was petrified of mice.
Cameron Diaz: Door Handles
Cameron Diaz refuses to touch door handles with her bare hands and instead uses her elbows to turn the knobs.
